Bio

Cristina was born in 1976 in Boston, Massachusetts, while her Puerto Rican parents completed studies in medicine at Harvard University. She graduated from the Academia del Perpetuo Socorro, Miramar, PR in 1994. She attended college at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Fine Arts in 1998.  

In the summer of 1999, she completed courses at Touchtone School of Crafts in Farmington, PA, at the NY State College of Ceramics at Alfred University , and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine. In September 1999, she began independent studies at the NY State College of Ceramics at Alfred University as a special student under the supervision of Wayne Higby and Walter McConnell. She was accepted with a scholarship for a master's degree in ceramics from the same institution in September 2000. Upon graduation in 2002 she was selected for a three year residency at Penland School of Crafts where she later served as a trustee from 2006 to 2010. 

Some of Cristina Córdova's  recognitions include a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship Grant, an American Crafts Council Emerging Artist Grant, a Virginia Groot Foundation Grant and several AICA awards.
